2022 Leadership Journey Project: Transforming the motivation and confidence among women nurses in rural Rajasthan

Sanjana Brahmawar Mohan is co-founder and Director at Basic Healthcare Services, a not-for-profit organization that provides a responsive, empathetic primary health ‘circle of care’ that is rooted in the community. BHS is based in Udaipur in southern Rajasthan and reaches the most vulnerable communities through a network of primary healthcare and nutrition services. 

In her experience of over 25 years, Sanjana has worked at tertiary care hospitals in Rajasthan, anchored trainings for doctors and auxiliary nurse midwives at the state level, coordinated a community-based trial on measuring the impact of a set of interventions on health and well-being, and coordinated the National Child Health Resource Centre during its initial period. She was a principal investigator for the first research study in India on community-based management of severely malnourished children. 

She is an MD in Pediatrics from University of Rajasthan and has studied Epidemiology from University of London.Sanjana finds the domain of primary healthcare extremely challenging, stimulating as well as satisfying, and enjoys working with the healthcare teams of doctors, nurses, ANMs and healthcare workers. Her hobbies include reading, writing, music of all kinds, and travel.
