2022 Leadership Journey Project: Strengthening Gender Equity in Health Financing Technical Assistance in Africa
Samantha Diamond is the Director of Global Health Financing at the Clinton Health Access Initiative (CHAI). Samantha works with local and regional technical advisors in 11 countries in Sub-Saharan Africa and India, supporting Ministries of Health, Finance, and government insurance agencies undertaking ambitious health financing reforms towards the goal of universal health coverage.
Samantha brings over a decade of experience in health financing and systems strengthening. In her current role she works with policymakers to strengthen management systems, set priorities, secure and manage funding, design and implement public health insurance reforms, and improve efficiency and effectiveness in spending across the public and private sector.
Previously Samantha was a technical advisor to the Ministry of Health in Haiti, supporting strategic planning, coordination of development assistance, and monitoring and evaluation. Samantha also led work on a multi-country analysis of the cost and impact of HIV/AIDS treatment scale-up which informed policies on treatment eligibility and optimization in Eswatini, Malawi, and Zambia.
Samantha holds an MPH and BA from Yale University and is pursuing a doctorate of public health (DrPH) in international health systems and financing at Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health.
