Professor Tonia Onyeka is a Consultant Physician Anaesthetist, Pain Medicine and Palliative Medicine Physician at the College of Medicine, University of Nigeria. She is the founding and current Head of the Pain and Palliative Care Unit of the University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital.
Prof. Tonia is the current National President of the Hospice and Palliative Care Association of Nigeria and a member of several professional bodies including the Nigerian Society of Anaesthetists, American Association for Hospice and Palliative Medicine and International Association for the Study of Pain (IASP). She was a member of the Technical Expert Group that produced first-ever pain management guidelines for Nigerian healthcare professionals. Prof Tonia is Editor of the Nigerian Journal of Anaesthesia and Associate Editor of Paediatric Pain section, Frontiers in Pain Research. She is also Associate Director of the IVAN Research Institute, Nigeria and has several publications in peer-reviewed local and international journals.
