2023 Leadership Journey Project: Empowering Rural Women to Take Charge of their Healthcare Seeking Behaviours for Preventive Health Services: Using the health systems lens to lay a foundation for a rural women’s health centre
Kusum has an MD in Community Medicine (a discipline closely linked to Public Health) from Christian Medical College, Vellore. After completing her MD, she has worked in Implementation Research, Health Economics, Reproductive and Maternal Health, and Tuberculosis. Over the past decade, she has worked in diverse settings in India, including government and private medical colleges, government and private research organizations, a global innovator-pharma company, and national and international non-profit organizations. While navigating through these various roles, she realized her passion for gender and health under the broader scope of public health. She has now committed her professional life to working for rural women in Solapur district, Maharashtra. Since July 2024, she has been serving as one of the Directors for a non-profit organization that aims at advancing Women’s Health and well-being. Kusum is an earnest learner and a firm believer in developing a sense of self to pay back to society. She loves traveling, writing, reading, and listening to audiobooks.
