Joanna Skinner has 17 years of experience in public health and social development, with an emphasis on gender equality and women’s empowerment. Her areas of expertise include social and behavior change (SBC) for sexual and reproductive health, HIV/AIDS, adolescent health and maternal, newborn and child health. Joanna served as the first Gender Equality and Social Inclusion (GESI) Lead at the Johns Hopkins Center for Communication Programs, where she set the overarching vision for GESI work and strengthened the organization’s capacity to integrate GESI into its operations and programs. She is passionate about designing SBC programs that address gender as a social determinant of health, as well as creating innovative and impact-driven gender transformative approaches to achieve gender equality. Ms. Skinner previously worked at UNFPA and the Division for the Advancement of Women at the United Nations. She has an MHS in Behavioral Sciences and Health Education from the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health and an MA in East Asian Studies from Harvard University.
