2022 Leadership Journey Project: A forum to nurture women scientists at KEMRI-CGHR to enable entry, growth &sustainability in science

My name is Hellen Barsosio, a clinical research scientist working at the Kenya Medical Research Institute, Centre for Global Health Research in Kisumu Kenya, where I lead the maternal and new-born health studies of the KEMRI-CDC-LSTM Malaria collaboration.

My research work centres on interventions to reduce adverse pregnancy outcomes including malaria infection in pregnancy, and more recently the link between community health systems and improved maternal health care.

I am the co-Principal Investigator of several studies including the newly funded C-it-DU-it study, and sits in various national and international technical working groups supporting malaria and HIV in pregnancy.

I am in the final year of my PhD at the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine, UK, through the EDCTP funded IMPROVE consortium.
