2023 Leadership Journey Project: Addressing Power Asymmetry In Global Nursing
Dr. Favorite Iradukunda is a nurse scholar dedicated to advancing the holistic wellbeing of Afro-diasporic women, families, and communities. Her research focuses on the intersection of multi-culturalism, immigration, and health outcomes for women/birthing people and addressing maternal health disparities through community-centered and culturally congruent interventions. She is also dedicated to transforming nursing education through anti-colonial knowledge co-creation processes. Globally, Dr. Iradukunda has worked at the intersection of nursing education, maternal, and community health. Her impact on global health continues to center the perspectives of nurse leaders through efforts of decolonizing nursing education and research, which will increase autonomy and equal participation in global health policies. She advocates for the inclusion of historically underrepresented and excluded nurses in global health leadership. Dr. Iradukunda is an Assistant Professor at the University of Massachusetts – Amherst, where she earned her Ph.D. in Nursing. She also holds a Master of Science from the University of Cape Town, a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Rwanda, and a professional diploma of nursing and midwifery from Ecole des Sciences Infirmière Sainte Elisabeth.
