Erin McCarthy is a mother, global health advocate, and connector.

Since 2010, she has worked at the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation where she helps leaders and teams maximize their time and voice to achieve impact. She serves as Senior Program Officer in the Office of the President of the Global Development Program where she leads the president’s engagement planning and communications and serves as the Global Development Program’s lead for Diversity, Equity & Inclusion. Previously, she served as Chief of Staff to the Director of the Foundation’s Nigeria Country Office, working to expand the office and the foundation’s partnerships in Nigeria. Erin has held other roles at the foundation including on the Philanthropic Partnerships and Government Affairs teams.

Prior to joining the foundation, Erin was a defense consultant supporting initiatives in the global intelligence community. She began her career in Washington, DC serving at the Pentagon and in the Office of Political Affairs at the White House.

Erin serves on the board of the Washington Global Health Alliance. She holds a Master of Public Administration from the Evans School of Public Policy & Governance at the University of Washington and a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Rosemont College.
