Dr Onyekachi Obioma Chijioke-Akaniro

Dr. Onyekachi Obioma Chijioke-Akaniro is a Pediatrician, Public Health Practitioner, and Scientist, currently serving as Deputy Director and Monitoring and Evaluation Manager at the National Tuberculosis Program, Federal Ministry of Health, Nigeria. She plays a key role in conceptualizing, operationalizing, monitoring, and evaluating strategies, using data trends to inform program development.

Dr. Chijioke-Akaniro is the Secretary of the Operational Research Task Team and leads the development of the TB National Strategic Plan. A multiple award winner, both nationally and internationally, her accolades include the prestigious Presidential National Honours award from the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and the UN Model Award in Washington, D.C. She founded the GEWHDF in 2005, an NGO dedicated to empowering women and girls with the mantra, “educating a girl child is key to reducing maternal mortality.” Through her efforts, she has secured scholarships for numerous children from low socio-economic backgrounds and has taken part-time teaching roles in underserved communities.
