Dr. Ayesha Akinkugbe is a Dermatologist at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital and an Associate Professor with the College of Medicine, University of Lagos. She has 60 publications in international and national journals and has co-authored two textbooks in Dermatology. Dr. Akinkugbe is also a Facilitator with the Department of Medicine’s Medical Education Unit (MEDU) and has been involved in the annual Training of Trainers (ToT) workshop for the past 7 years. As a lecturer and trainer, she mentors and trains undergraduate and postgraduate residency students and Fellows of both the National Postgraduate College of Nigeria and the West African College of Physicians.
She supervises and contributes to the dissertations of Fellows and has a particular interest in hair and scalp-related disorders, quality of life as it affects dermatology, SLE, infectious dermatoses, skin-NTDs, skincare, the effects of skin bleaching, sunscreen use, and photoprotection. She is an active member of the Nigerian Association of Dermatologists and the African Society of Dermatology and Venereology, where she has served as Secretary in both associations. She is also a member of several other professional bodies, an International Fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology, and a member of the International Society of Dermatology.
In addition to her professional work, Dr. Akinkugbe is deeply committed to social responsibility. She has been involved in several medical missions in various communities, providing her professional services. She is also a co-founder of The Labalaba Foundation for Lupus Education and Advocacy.
