Statement on the U.S. Supreme Court Overturning Roe v. Wade

WomenLift Health works to advance women’s leadership around the world by addressing the persistent inequalities within health and the longstanding barriers that women face. We believe in women leaders as change agents, rely on the power of virtuous cycles, strategize on how transformative change can ripple out across workplaces and communities. At its core, all of this is about expanding the power and influence of diverse women leaders to improve health for everyone, everywhere.

The U.S. Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe vs. Wade and deny women a constitutionally-protected right to abortion does the exact opposite. Taking away women’s sexual, reproductive rights and bodily autonomy in the U.S. will come at profound individual, societal and health costs. The impact of this grave injustice will be felt for years to come, not only in the U.S. but globally, with far reaching consequences on resources and access for already-marginalized populations.

Today, we dig in our heels and lean into our work with renewed passion, commitment and urgency. The heart of WomenLift Health’s mission is to unleash the potential for women’s leadership to make positive, transformative change. When women’s voices are heard and diverse lived experiences are brought to bear in health institutions, boardrooms, and at policymaking tables around the world, we will be closer to achieving our vision of a world where people lead more equitably and inclusively. Until then, we’ll be left counting the years, if not decades, until true progress is achieved. Women’s leadership matters; our time to lead is now.
