Dr. Maimunat Alex-Adeomi- Redefining Leadership, Expanding Who Leads

For over a decade, Dr. Maimunat Alex-Adeomi led by delivering results, managing programs,  and supporting teams. But she began to realize that results alone didn’t define the kind of leader she wanted to become. “Leadership was more what I did instead of who I was,” she reflected.

Through the WomenLift Health Leadership Journey, that understanding shifted. Structured reflection, candid 360-degree feedback, and a powerful community of peers helped Maimunat begin to see leadership differently— not only as a reflection of her expertise, but also how she shows up, what she stands for, and the space she claims. Surrounded by women navigating similar challenges, she gained both community and the confidence to build something of her own.

What began as her WomenLift Health leadership project evolved into W+Men Leading Change, an organization she founded to advance inclusive, gender-balanced leadership in global health and beyond. Launched in 2023 with a six-month virtual program supporting women leaders in Nigeria in partnership with the Medical Women’s Association of Nigeria, it has since expanded to reach youth and emerging leaders. An upcoming partnership with the National Youth Service Corps will bring leadership and workplace readiness training to undergraduates in Nigeria. Through this work, Maimunat is equipping individuals and organizations to lead with equity, intention, and impact. “If you don’t have a seat at the table… you can create that table,” she said.

Today, Maimunat is not only leading differently. She is redefining who gets to lead, building platforms that expand voice, agency, and opportunity for others.
