Dr. Idah Mokhele

Dr Idah Mokhele is a Principal Researcher at the Health Economics and Epidemiology Research Office (HE2RO) and a recognized leader in health systems, HIV, TB, and maternal and child health research in Southern Africa. She holds a PhD in public health (Applied Psychology) and an MSc in Epidemiology, offering a multidisciplinary perspective that combines epidemiology, behavioral science, and implementation research to tackle complex public health challenges.

Before joining HE2RO in 2016, she had over ten years experience in program management for donor-funded HIV and TB projects. Since then, Dr. Mokhele has evaluated HIV programs, producing policy-relevant evidence that influenced decision-making and improved programs across South Africa and the region. She also contributed to behavior-change interventions to improve health communication and outcomes, demonstrating her commitment to turning evidence into practice. Her work reflects a strong commitment to producing research that informs policy, strengthens health systems, and serves communities most in need.
