2023 Leadership Journey Project: Empowering Women Participation in Rural Community-Based Clinical Research Studies

Aditi Apte has been intrigued by the gaps in medical therapeutics that led her to pursue the field of pharmacology after my medical graduation from Seth GS Medical College and KEM Hospital, Mumbai. After spending a few years in the pharmaceutical industry and medical teaching, she has been working in public health research with a focus on maternal and child health with KEM Hospital Research Centre, Pune. During her journey, she realized that there is a dearth of medical professionals in India trained in clinical and public health research which inspired her to take clinical research as her full-time profession. She is passionate about developing health interventions through ethical, culturally appropriate and high-quality research that can benefit our country. She recently completed my PhD from IIT Bombay during which she helped translate an innovative intervention of body oil fortified with nanosized iron and micronutrients for the prevention of anaemia from a lab-based technology to a community-level randomized study. She has been part of several hospital and community-based research projects of national and international health priority and is currently leading a community-based nutrition intervention study at a community site.
