Yewande Babalola (Senior Lecturer/Consultant Ophthalmologist & Vitreoretinal Surgeon, University College Hospital, Ibadan) is a senior lecturer at the College of Medicine, University of Ibadan, and a consultant ophthalmologist and vitreoretinal surgeon at the University College Hospital, Ibadan. She is passionate about evidence-based medicine in vitreoretinal care and global eye health in our population. Her research interests include ocular inflammatory and infectious diseases, inherited retinal diseases and global eye health. A fellow of the West African College of Surgeons and the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria, her vitreoretinal fellowship was at the LV Prasad Eye Institute, Bhubaneshwar, India. She is a recipient of the National Institute of Health/Fogarty HBNU global health fellowship and the Stanford African scholar in global health fellowship. She is enthusiastic about mentoring the next generation of female physicians, ophthalmologists, vitreoretinal surgeons, and global eye health enthusiasts, an important bedrock in fostering women’s leadership. Fun fact – Interior decoration and discovering exquisite home decor is a favourite pastime.
